Maja has been dancing since she was three years old. She has a background in contemporary dance and ballet, as well as latin and ballroom dances. She attended music school for ten years, where she played the piano and flute. She studied Spanish and German language and literature at the University of Zagreb and worked as language teacher and translator. In Karlsruhe, she worked in different departments of the Center for Art and Media Technology (ZKM). Marko was more into sports and almost went pro in basketball. Instead, he decided to study Electrotechnics and later Physics in which he obtained a degree at the University of Zagreb. He later continued his education and in 2014 received his PhD in Nanobiotechnology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). From 2010 until 2018 we have lived in Karlsruhe, Germany. We curently live in Zagreb, Croatia.
We started dancing tango in Zagreb, Croatia in 2002 in a small group of enthusiasts curious about this “new” dance. Some five years later we began giving regular lessons at the Tango Argentino Zagreb dance school. Our first and most influential teachers were Pablo Rodríguez and Noelia Hurtado. Later we continued to study with Noelia and Carlitos Espinoza. We also studied with Federico Naveira and Inés Muzzoppapa, Bruno Tombari and Mariangeles Caamaño and Chicho Frumboli and Juana Sepúlveda, among others.
Since 2014 we are working with tango professionally, holding workshops and performing all over Europe (Amsterdam, Minsk, Florence, Karlsruhe, Genova, Budapest, L´Aquila, Freiburg, Treviso, Poreč, Mantova, Halle, Sevilla, Lisbon, Procida, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Reykjavik etc.). In 2018 we have started to work in North America, Asia and Australia.

Vania started teaching tango in 2002 in Berlin, Germany. She is equally respected and accomplished as both leader and follower. Her greatest strengths as a teacher and dancer are her versatility and range, gained through years of experience dancing and teaching a wide variety of styles - from Nuevo to Milonguero. By pairing an analytical mind with exceptional kinesthetic sense and strong observation skills, Vania emphasizes fine-tuning the fundamentals, and encourages the sharing of more nuanced communication as a path for deeper connection. Vania has traveled to teach and DJ tango in Buenos Aires, and all-over North America and Europe.
Gary believes that everyone has what it takes to have fun dancing tango, and is excited to work together with you in finding ways to enjoy it even more. Now ten years after his first tango class in Bozeman, Montana, he continues to be drawn to the depth of connection, the richness of nonverbal communication, and the range of self-expression that tango offers.
Vania has a degree in finance and Gary has degrees in engineering and secondary education. They started dancing together in 2015 and live in Austin, Texas.
Classes Y and Z
Y: “Walk this way!” Foot biomechanics and exercises for tango:
Do you have foot pain? This class is for you! Having good foot articulation and control is fundamental to our tango walk. I will share the “top hits” of physical therapy exercises for the feet to treat a variety of conditions. We will compare the tango gait cycle to a pedestrian gait and discover why gait deviations can lead to pain and injury. Be prepared to be in sock feet or barefooted for this class. If time allows, tango shoes may be used for the last activity.
Z: "Let’s get grounded!" The fundamentals of balance for tango:
Do you lose your balance when dancing? We hear the terms “stay grounded” and “use the floor” but how do we get there? Learn the three systems our bodies use for balance and find out how they should work for a smooth tanda. Discover the common compensatory strategies to avoid when dancing, and what you can do to improve your balance. I will guide you in achieving proper body mechanics for weight transfers so you can take your dance to the next level! Be prepared to be in sock feet or barefooted for this class. If time allows, tango shoes may be used for the last activity.
